Reduce lag in CS GO

How to reduce lag in Counter Strike Global Offensive?

csgo lag

Lag in CS:GO seems like an unending battle that every player has to fight. Sometimes CS:GO lag just becomes so frustrating that players don’t even feel like playing anymore. Today I have come up with another brief guide on how to reduce your CS:GO lag through some simple and easy to follow steps. Though there is not an obvious way to reduce lag, there are many different methods that one can work around to make his CS:GO experience better.

Connection Problems:

Firstly make sure your connection is suitable enough for gaming. As many suggest, the first best possible thing you can do to reduce CS:GO lag is switch yourself to a wired internet connection. Secondly, though quite obvious but always remember to close background downloading software or applications that might leech your bandwidth.

Now that you are through the initial part; it’s time to know the exact cause of the problem. Since there are many ways one can reduce CS:GO lag, it also means there are many ways your CS:GO experience can be messed up.

Hardware Configuration:

In case you think the problem you are facing is in game jerks then probably you might want to put an eye to your graphic card.

Graphic cards are like blood for your game. If your graphic hardware/software is not performing to the optimum level, it instantly results to lags and other related problems. Make sure that your graphic card is updated with the latest drivers. There is one more thing, that though very important, many seem to ignore due to laziness. This is the proper cleanup of your computer. Remember, Dust is your computer’s worst enemy. Clean your computer from the inside every month to ensure proper Air Ventilation.

And while we all love to play CS:GO at the maximum possible settings, it’s always not the best option if you are opting for a smoother CS:GO experience.

You can greatly reduce your CS:GO lag if you lower your graphic configurations in game and play at game settings that feel good to the eye while not creating much load over your computer. If it persists and you are still sure the problem is with your graphic card then it is strongly advised that you refer to the technical support staff from where you bought your computer.

Network Settings:

If you have done the proper network settings, in and out of the game, it literally helps alot. If not done correctly, one can seriously jumble up even if he has a good internet connection.
Here are some commands that you should know about

rate
cl_interp_ratio
cl_interp
cl_cmdrate
cl_updaterate

Rate

Rate is the limit of how much download bandwidth should be given to CSGO. Measured in Bytes, the default rate for CSGO is 80,000. This maximum value is capped at 128,000. So unless you are playing on a dial up connection, which we wish you won’t then you should set your value to 128000.

Recommended Value: rate 128000

cl_cmdrate

The number of packets that are send by your computer to the game server. The default value is 64 and the maximum limited to 128. If you have a stable 100+ FPS in game, then set your value to 128, else it should remain the same.

Recommended Value: cl_cmdrate 64

cl_updaterate

This is the number of packets that your computer receives from the server. Similar to cl_cmdrate, the default value is 64 and is capped at 128. Make sure to put the same value as you had from cl_cmdrate

Recommended Value: cl_updaterate 64

cl_interp

This command sets the interpolation amount in CS:GO. Though decreasing interpolation can help reduce your CS:GO lag, having an absolute zero is not possible. You can set it to 0 and the command will automatically set the number to the least possible amount, for e.g. 0.01.

Recommended Value: cl_interp 0

cl_interp_ratio

Sets ratio for the above interpolation time.It is recommended to use 2

Recommended Value: cl_interp_ratio 2

Enhancing Ping

After you are done within game settings to reduce your CS:GO lag it is now time to set up the overall computer for all possible tweaks.

– Stop all updates before starting the game
– Torrents are you worst enemy if you are playing CS:GO
– Select game servers that you think are closest to your location. Set your max ping to 100-120 as this will automatically select closest servers for you.
– Do not use any proxy in the background as it will greatly increase your ping.
– Avoid using programs such as TeamSpeak or Skype. If you communicate with your team members then this can be best done on Steam’s voice chat since they do not require a high bandwidth at all.
– Get a dedicated connection
– Check for any virus on your computer regularly
– Close all firewall protections

These are all the things you can do to reduce lag in CSGO, if you still face any problem please comment below.
